BIOGRAPHY OF STUART JOSEPH, THE GREAT SCOT, BARDIC MAGICIAN
Great Scot with Cups and Balls at Vermont Fenaissance Festival
Stuart Joseph has been a performer for more than 40 years. He has been an actor, a folk singer, and a magician.

Interested in magic since he was a teenager, he has turned his attention to researching and performing magic of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Combining history, folktales and story telling with his magic, he became The Great Scot, Bardic Magician.

He performs at Renaissance Festivals, Scottish and Celtic Festivals, where his audience is made up of people of all ages, but he especially enjoys entertaining the children. He has also performed at birthday and other parties and is expanding into doing shows and magic classes at libraries and schools.

In addition to magical performance, Stuart Joseph has presented a variety of other programs. His performances include: the life of a Highland Scottish soldier in the British Army during the War for American Independence, general Scottish History, The ‘45. A history of the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745, the British Isles Ballad Tradition and History, and folksongs from Scotland, Ireland, and the British Isles. Mostly these have been presented at schools and for historical organizations (programs for both adults and children).

Stuart Joseph is a member of The International Brotherhood of Magicians.
He has studied Theatre and English at the University of Miami and has a BA in History and Music from Adelphi University.
He has also studied magic performance and techniques with world class magician, Jeff McBride, The King of the Street Magicians, Jim Cellini, and Renaissance magic with Matthew Taylor.

He lives in Vermont and recently separated from his wife, Veda, who is a graphic artist, calligrapher and illuminator, illustrator, and also designs and sews historical clothing.

Stuart shares his apartment in a Queen Anne Victorian house with Duffy (formal name is Mac Duff) and Molly, a brace of wire haired fox terriers.
