I am constantly looking for ways to do that and here are
some
resources
that should help you do the same yourself. I will include a number of
things from how to make money as a performer, tools for using the web,
marketing, and ideas for generating stories for routines.
Some will be free and some will cost money, but they will be of use to
all performers, not just magicians, as a number of techniques and ideas
can be used by anyone.

Jim Snack, the
author of
Success-in-Magic is a friend,
but I would recommend this book in any case.
I saw the book in it's early stages and
it is an awesome resource. In fact, you can see my testimonial on his
web site. It
is a worthwhile course for any performer to have. I re-read it
frequently to get new ideas, to refresh old ones, and to re-energise
myself.

Secrets
of a Millionaire Magician
is another course that many people have recommended,
including some professionals from Las Vegas.
It does have good information,
especially when it comes to marketing
and lists of agents, but Success-in-Magic is still my #1 choice.

Randy
Charach, the author of Secrets of a
Millionaire Magician, also has a book about making money with
your own talent agency. I haven't read it yet as I am not interested in
booking other performers (I do on occasion if I can't do the show or to
make myself more valuable to a client), since I am tied up with
performing, writing, and running Celtic Cultures, my other business.
It does seem like a good idea since you are already building up a
client list and advertising your performances.

Site?
Actually, I should have said, you need a website.
They are very important these days and I would highly recommend
ICDSoft to host it.
They have very reasonable rates and great technical support. They have
everything you need in a web host and you get discounts for additional
domains hosted with them. If you register your domain name at the time
you sign up, it can be included in the price, if not see the next
listing for the place to register or to transfer your domain.
I
have used ICDSoft for years for all of our sites and they are great!

FREE Office
Suite
My thrifty Scottish
soul loves this next product because you can get it for FREE! It is
also an outstanding product, did I mention it was free? <grin>
It is a full-featured Office Suite that has more features than
Microsoft Office (tm) is compatible with it and co-exists nicely with
it, if you already have Office.
It is called EasyOffice and has a word processor, database,
spreadsheet, calendar, contact manager, e-mail client, zip,
anti-virus and anti-adware, voice recognition, PDF editor, Image and
Graphics editors, and a host of others.
Best of all, it is compatible with most Office files. Not all of the
features are available in the free version, mostly because they would
be too large for downloading from the Net (which is where you get it),
but the basic programs are there. The full featured version comes on
CD-Rom, and it is very reasonable if you want to buy it. As of
9/14/04 it is only $44.00 US delivered anywhere in the world. I bought
the Suite for myself to get the extra features and to support the
people that are making it available.
I have been using it to write my book on Irish blessings and I love it.
Very highly recommended.
